I have been a commercial arbitrator for over 25 years, working mostly in Sacramento and Northern California. I take cases from the American Arbitration Association and the State of California, Public Works Arbitration Program, as well as Kaiser Hospital and direct referrals from attorneys. I have handled well over 500 cases as a neutral.

Work History:

I have been an attorney for over 45 years, first as a public defender and then as a business litigator, handling a broad variety of business disputes, including construction, malpractice, defamation, RICO, intellectual property, breach of contract, business torts, real property cases, among others. I have also arbitrated attorney-client fee disputes for the State Bar of California and for the Sacramento County Bar Association. I have also served as a Superior Court Judge pro tem in settlement court for over 25 years.

My training has come primarily through the American Arbitration Association, where I serve on the Large Complex Case, Commercial and Construction Panels, as well as the Mediator Panel. I have been a member of AAA in good standing for over 25 years.

I have been licensed to practice law in the State of California (#45586) since January 1970.

I have been designated as AV by Martindale Hubbell for over 25 years. I have been consistently designated as a Super Lawyer in Northern California in Alternative Dispute Resolution, since 2006. I have also been designated as a Sacramento Top Lawyer in Mediation, Arbitration and Alternative Dispute Resolution for the past several years and since the award has been in existence.

A.B., Stanford University (Philosophy) 1966. J.D., University of California, Hastings College of the Law 1969.

I have written extensively through the years on a host of legal topics, including Alternative Dispute Resolution. I have also written two novels, Contempt of Court (2013) and Fatal Reunion (2015), both of which are about a mythical lawyer in Sacramento.

I have taught Trial Practice at UC Davis Law School and at Hastings College of the Law. I have also taught Mediation at University of the Pacific, McGeorge School of Law. I have taught arbitration in several classes for the American Arbitration Association through the years.
