Work History:

Judge Brown graduated from Duke Law School in 1968, and served as law clerk to then-New Jersey Supreme Court Justice Vincent S. Haneman for the Court's 1968-1969 term. Following his clerkship, Judge Brown joined the United States Attorney's Office for the District of New Jersey, and distinguished himself as an Assistant Federal Prosecutor, both by trying civil and criminal cases, and helping to administer that Office. Judge Brown entered private practice in 1973, and joined the firm Stryker, Tams and Dill in Newark, NJ. After nearly a decade of litigating complex civil cases, Judge Brown left private practice in 1981, and joined the United States Printing Office as its General Counsel. Subsequently, Judge Brown was appointed General Counsel of the United States Maritime Administration, and later as Acting Administrator. Judge Brown held that position when he was nominated to a seat on the bench of the United States District Court for the District of New Jersey by President Ronald Reagan in 1985. After taking the bench, Judge Brown served as a Judge in the District of New Jersey from 1985 until his retirement in 2012, and as Chief Judge from 2005 until late 2011. Judge Brown joined the New York office of JAMS as a Neutral immediately upon his retirement from the bench in early 2012.
