Gene has a long history of successfully leveraging his extensive legal, business and ADR experience to contribute valuable insight into the ADR process. He currently serves on the CCA Education Committee.
Gene stepped back from his role as an ADR neutral in 2020 but he continues to serve as a business and ADR advisor, nonprofit board member, and mentor. With more than 20 years of experience as a commercial arbitrator and mediator, Gene helps businesses enhance their competitiveness and success by providing customized professional and career advice and creative dispute resolution strategies when more traditional approaches fail to produce the desired results.
In addition to his ongoing support of the ADR profession, Gene also focuses his attention and energy on the Denver business community’s workforce development needs and its broader economic and social challenges. He actively serves on nonprofit boards and mentors professionals in the Denver business community who share his interest in building vibrant, equitable and inclusive places to live and work.
After more than 35 years representing clients from virtually every sector of the real estate development and construction industries, Gene retired from the practice of law in 2015 to form his own commercial arbitration and mediation firm. For the next five years, Gene Commander Inc provided customized arbitration and mediation services to businesses involved in alternative dispute resolution proceedings administered privately and through the American Arbitration Association. He served on the AAA’s roster of neutrals for more than 20 years, and his experience involved more than 200 cases ranging from consumer disputes to large, complex commercial and construction disputes with claims totaling more than $40 million in one case.
Gene previously served as the Denver office managing partner for Polsinelli PC, a Kansas City–based Am Law 100 national law firm.
Gene serves as a founding board member of the Construction Education Foundation, which was established through the leadership of the Associated General Contractors of Colorado to promote inclusive construction workforce development opportunities for high school students, young adults, and veterans throughout Colorado. He has a longstanding relationship with and has previously served as a board member of AGC/C.
