John Hinchey

Mr. Hinchey is recognized as one of the leading arbitrators in the United States and internationally in resolving significant engineering, infrastructure and energy generation disputes.

Experience

Mr. Hinchey’s arbitration experience as an arbitrator and advocate includes all types of construction, infrastructure and energy related disputes, involving a broad spectrum of public and private parties, public-private partnerships, government entities, agencies and authorities, engineering and architectural professionals, constructors, consultants, vendors and material suppliers, financiers, bond insurers, banking institutions, insurers, sureties and guarantors.

Work History

Prior to his retirement from King & Spalding, an international law firm, Mr. Hinchey led the firm’s domestic and international construction disputes practice for approximately 18 years. A sampling of matters for which Mr. Hinchey has been responsible as an advocate would include the negotiation and drafting of design and construction agreements and resolution of disputes for the 1996 Summer Olympic Games; representation of Turner Broadcasting System in all aspects of its construction programs; representation of UPS as core counsel for its worldwide construction transactions and related dispute resolution matters; representation of Wal Mart, Inc., in multi-state construction litigation; representation of The Coca-Cola Company in global construction matters; drafting and development of design and construction agreements for United States Golf Association, Bethpage Black Golf Course renovation; review of construction related agreements for Equatorial Guinea Oil Development Project; advice and counsel regarding design and construction of world’s largest beverage concentrate plant in Ireland; advice and construction contract drafting for development of international telecommunications facilities (uplink and downlink satellite TV stations) in various countries, including India and China; construction risk review and analysis of agreements for City University of New York Student Housing Project; preparation of OCIP-related agreements for Yale University Construction Program; and drafting, negotiating or performing risk analyses of a variety of design build, turnkey and EPC agreements for such projects as the Al Udeid Air Base Fueling Facility in Qatar, Turner Field in Atlanta, the Houston Astros’ Stadium, the New England Patriots Stadium, the Philadelphia Eagles Stadium, the proposed new Tacoma Narrows Bridge, and a monorail project in Las Vegas, Nevada.
