I arbitrate all types of business disputes and I have been serving as an arbitrator and mediator for over 30 years.

Experience

I have been a commercial and construction arbitrator for over 30 years, working mostly in Sacramento and Northern California. I take cases from the American Arbitration Association and the State of California, Public Works Arbitration Program, as well as Kaiser Hospital and direct referrals from attorneys. I have handled well over 500 cases as a neutral.

Work History

I have been an attorney for over 45 years, first as a public defender and then as a business litigator, handling a broad variety of business disputes, including construction, malpractice, defamation, RICO, intellectual property, breach of contract, business torts, real property cases, among others. I have also arbitrated attorney-client fee disputes for the State Bar of California and for the Sacramento County Bar Association. I have also served as a Superior Court Judge pro tem in settlement court for over 25 years.

Training

My training has come primarily through the American Arbitration Association, where i have taken numerous cases over the years in every aspect of arbitration practice. I also regularly attend a monthly legal update series through AAA.

I have been licensed to practice law in the State of California (#45586) since January 1970.

Publications

I have written extensively through the years on a host of legal topics, including Alternative Dispute Resolution. I have also written four novels, Contempt of Court (2013), Fatal Reunion (2015), One Night in Amboise 2017 and Sweet Justice (2019), all of which are about a trial lawyer in Sacramento who solves crimes.

Awards

I have been designated as AV by Martindale Hubbell for over 30 years. I have been consistently designated as a Super Lawyer in Northern California in Alternative Dispute Resolution, since 2006. I have also been designated as a Sacramento Top Lawyer in Mediation, Arbitration and Alternative Dispute Resolution for the past several years and since the award has been in existence.

I am a long-standing member of the American Arbitration Association, where I serve on the Large Complex Case, Commercial and Construction Panels, as well as the Mediator Panel.

Miscellaneous

I have taught Trial Practice at UC Davis Law School and at Hastings College of the Law. I have also taught Mediation at University of the Pacific, McGeorge School of Law. I have taught arbitration in several classes for the American Arbitration Association through the years. In addition, I have appeared on numerous legal panels, discussing a wide variety of legal topics.
