Has served as arbitrator in more than 600 cases involving various business disputes, including international transactions and joint ventures, corporate, partnership, technology and intellectual property, software development and licensing, finance, securities, energy, employment, ERISA, professional sports, insurance coverage and bad faith, environmental, gaming, Indian rights, franchise, distributorship, legal malpractice and class actions. Recent representative arbitrations include service as chair in major contract dispute between payment service provider and internet marketplace company; chair in 9 figure dispute between sub-prime mortgage lender and insurer; chair in ad hoc arbitration of claims by owner of coal gas technology against major oil and gas company; claims by aerospace company against major supplier regarding numerous manufacturing defects; joint venture dispute between a U.S. software company and Saudi joint venture partner involving Saudi (shari’a) substantive law; appointed by NFL Commissioner to arbitrate intra-team dispute; contract dispute beween NBA franchise and owner-operator of sports arena; claim of expropriation of power plant by energy company against Latin American government.. Recent representative mediations include a patent dispute between a Korean conglomerate and several manufacturers of computer components in Taiwan; a multi-party construction dispute involving defective construction in four office buildings; intra-family dispute involving rights regarding a $30 million family commercial real estate portfolio; and, multi-million dollar claim by insured against insurance company for bad faith.

Training

Have conducted mutiple various trainings over the years for AAA, ABA, ICDR, and other organizations. Regular speaker for Negotiation Stategy Institute programs on mediation and arbitration. Participated in various trainings by AAA, ICDR, Chartered Institute of Arbitrators, and U.S. District Court, N. D. Cal. ADR Division.
