Mr. Young has conducted over 275 arbitrations and over 1600 mediations in over thirty states and abroad. He specializes in commercial, financial services, professional liability, employment and insurance coverage disputes.

Experience

Mr. Young has conducted over 75 arbitrations, appraisals and other binding dispute resolution processes, as well as over 1600 mostly complex or multi-party mediations, in over thirty states and abroad. In addition to conducting arbitrations and mediations, Mr. Young also serves as a mediator/arbitrator in various types of disputes; a neutral evaluator in non-binding evaluations of various types of claims; an ’arbitrator’ in mock arbitrations conducted by one of the parties to a case; and a discovery master in both court cases and complex arbitrations (in which he is not the arbitrator). Mr. Young specializes in the resolution of commercial, financial services and insurance coverage disputes, and has also conducted multiple arbitrations relating to construction, intellectual property, employment, and professional liability matters and issues.

Work History

Prior to becoming a full-time neutral in 1989, Mr. Young practiced law in both the public and private sectors as both a litigator and a senior government attorney.

Mr. Young has been recognized in each of 2016, 2017 and 2018 by Chambers and Partners as one of the seven mediators in the United States in ’Band One” and in 2016 was described by Chambers as an “exceptionally experienced mediator …” who is ’very talented in allowing time for the parties to see things for themselves.’ In addition, since 2014, he has been recognized in’International Who’s Who In Insurance and Reinsurance’ as a leading insurance coverage neutral and has been recognized since 2013 as one of the best commercial mediators from around the world in the ’International Who’s Who in Commercial Mediation,’ including the following references: ” … is recognized for his conciliatory and diplomatic approach to disputes” and ’... viewed as ’the king of financial services mediation’ according to admiring peers.’ He has been regularly recognized as a Best Lawyer and ’Super Lawyer’ in the ADR Specialty in the New York area and has also been recognized by LawDragon as one of the top private neutrals in the United States. Finally, he was chosen by Best Lawyers as the 2018 - 2019 ’Mediator of the Year’ in New York City.

Panels

Although he is a full-time JAMS neutral, he also regularly serves on AAA, ICDR, ICC, and other arbitral organization panels as either a party-appointed arbitrator or the chairperson (such service is coordinated through JAMS) and is a member of the panel of arbitrators or neutrals of JAMS International, the Beijing Arbitration Commission, CPR International Institute for Conflict Prevention and Resolution, Singapore International Mediation Center, Afghanistan Centre for Commercial Dispute Resolution and the Center for Arbitration and Dispute Resolution in Israel.

Associations

In addition to being a member of the College of Commercial Arbitrators, Mr. Young is an elected ’neutral’ member of the College of Labor & Employment Lawyers.
