Judge Brown held that position when he was nominated to a seat on the bench of the United States District Court for the District of New Jersey by President Ronald Reagan in 1985. After taking the bench, Judge Brown served as a Judge in the District of New Jersey from 1985 until his retirement in 2012, and as Chief Judge from 2005 until late 2011.
