Experience

Presided over 4,000 cases while serving as a justice on the Court of Appeals. These cases represented every possible aspect of procedural and substantive law. These cases primarily involved energy matters because the court\"s jurisdiction covered the geographic area of west Texas. As a lawyer has extensive legal representation in every area of the oil and gas and energy business: upstream, mid-stream, and downstream. Represented independent oil operators, exploration companies, drilling companies, service companies, pipeline companies, major oil companies, refineries, banks, financial institutions, investors, and a Public Utility Company. Drafted real estate conveyances, deeds, mineral conveyances, probate, mineral and mechanic\"s liens, examined title, and operating agreements, performed due diligence, formed business entities, complex debt structuring, as well as all aspects of court appearances including bankruptcy, both debtors and creditors, title disputes. Since returning to private practice, has represented energy clients in arbitration matters and presented briefings before all appellate courts, both federal and state, in the United States. Has appeared before all state regulatory bodies.
