Raymond G. Bender, Jr.

Commercial Arbitrator at Ray Bender PLLC

In addition to the foregoing areas of expertise, I tend to receive arbitral appointments in high-tech industry disputes, often relating to aviation, aerospace, satellites, telecommunications, mobile communications, intellectual property, biotechnology, and other technology-related fields.

Experience

As a practicing lawyer for 35 years, my work focused on contracts, commercial transactions, mergers & acquisitions, joint ventures, financings, litigation, and domestic and international regulation of businesses. I often represented businesses in technology-related sectors and, as a consequence, gained experience over time on legal and business issues involving high-tech industries. As a commercial Arbitrator, today I am often appointed to hear and resolve high-tech industry disputes, although I also am appointed in garden-variety contract and commercial disputes as well.

Work History

Law Clerk, James R. Durfee, U.S. Court of Claims (now United States Court of Claims for the Federal Circuit), 1973-1975. Attorney, Dow Lohnes PLLC, Washington, D.C. 1975-2009. Adjunct Professor, Nitze School of Advanced International Studies (SAIS), The Johns Hopkins University, Washiington, D.C., co-taught International Communications, 1998-2005. Adjunct Professor, Washington College of Law, American University, Washington, D.C., taught Alternative Dispute Resolution Law, 2010-2017. Currently serve as full-time Commercial Arbitrator.

Cases

Arbitrations to which I have been appointed involve a wide range of contract and commercial disputes. Based on my background and experience, I do tend to be appointed as Chair, ’wing’ or sole Arbitration in various high-tech industry disputes, such as aviation, aerospace and satellites, telecommunications, Internet and broadband communications, mobile communications, cable television, biotechnology (e.g.., pharma, medical devices, agribusiness), intellectual property, computer hardware and software, and other controversies involving technology-related matters.
